| A meteorologist would say that Brussels has a maritime temperate climate, which roughly translated means relatively mild winters, pleasant, warm summers and high average rainfall, distributed throughout the year. Temperatures range from an average of 7 ºC in winter, with peaks of around 30ºC in summer. In July and August, Brussels’ inland location can also make the Belgian capital feel that little bit warmer than the rest of the country. Having said that, it can quickly cloud over - so be prepared for the occasional shower! Autumn tends to be rainy and overcast, though rarely very cold. From December to February you can expect shorter daylight hours and the occasional morning frost, with evening temperatures approaching freezing at times. Curiously, June and November are generally the wettest months with an average 80mm of rainfall, so bring an umbrella or a waterproof jacket just in case. Some say late spring and early autumn are when Brussels is at its best, with mild temperatures and the city in full swing, ideal for enjoying the superb architecture of the Lower and Upper Towns, the wealth of historic museums and Brussels’ classic terrace cafés. |
